Tasks

Tasks

The Task List shows all of your current tasks coded according to priority or current progress. Note that task color coding can be turned off using Settings. To activate the Settings dialog, simply right click anywhere in your task list and select "Settings".

Tip: Try right clicking on the task list. You will see lots of options which are helpful for managing your tasks.

1Title Bar

Title Bar
The Title Bar displays information about tasks in your task list. You can change the information displayed in the title bar by right clicking and selecting the information you want displayed. The title bar is capable of displaying the following task information:

- Description
- Date Added
- Date Due
- Priority
- Sort Number

Also note that you can sort your tasks using the Title Bar. Just click on the column you want to sort by and an arrow will appear indicating the sort direction. In the above example, the description column is being sorted in ascending order.

2Subtask Indicator

Subtask Indicator
This folder icon indicates that this task contains subtasks. Double-clicking on this task will bring up another task list within the main JetTask window. You can navigate back and forth between task lists by clicking on the task header bars.

3Note Indicator

Note Indicator
This icon indicates that the task has notes associated with it. Double clicking on this task will take you straight to the notes section of the View Details window. Alternatively, you can right-click on the task and select "View Details". Note that if the note icon is next to an folder icon, you will need to right click on the folder and select "View Details" in order to view the notes. Double clicking on a folder is the action for opening the folder.

4In Progress

In Progress
With JetTask, you can mark a task as being "in progress". When a task is in progress it means you are working on that task. JetTask will time you to see how long it takes you to complete the task. You can then use the time information for any number of reporting purposes including client billing.

To mark a task as in progress, simply right click the task and select "In Progress". Alternatively, double click the task to bring up the Task Detail window and check "In Progress" followed by "OK".

"In Progress" tasks are colored blue.

5Action Box

Action Box
Clicking on this checkbox will perform the action defined in Settings. One of three things can happen.

1) The item can be crossed out.
2) The item can be marked as complete (and removed from your task list).
3) On the first click, the item can be crossed out. On the second click, the item can be marked as complete.

If you accidentally mark a task as complete and the task disappears, don't worry. Simply right click on the task list and select "Undo". Alternatively, you can use the short-cut key CTRL-Z.

6Column Headings

Column Headings
In order to conserve space used by the interface, some column headings are intentionally missing from the task list. However, you can always find out which column is which by hovering over the appropriate column until you see a tool tip. The task list columns in order are:

1 - Notes indicator. If this column contains an icon of a yellow note with a red pin, then the task has notes.

2 - Action Box. This column contains either a checkbox or a folder. A folder if the item is a category. A checkbox if the item is a task. Ticking the checkbox will perform a configurable action which is set in the settings page. The checkbox can either complete the task and remove it from your list, or cross the task out, or first cross the task out - then mark the task as complete.

3 - Description. This is the description for the task or category.

4 - Priority Indicator. This column contains an icon which indicates the priority of the task. For a description of the different priority settings available, please see the "Priority Indicator" topic below.

5 - Due Date. The date the task is due. Note, if this column is blank, it means that the task does not yet have a due date set.

Also note that you can sort your tasks using the Title Bar. Just click on the column you want to sort by and an arrow will appear indicating the sort direction. In the above example, the description column is being sorted in ascending order. Note that folders will always be sorted above tasks.

7Low Priority Task
