The Power of Accountability and Networking for Reaching your Goals

What goals are you trying to achieve? Do you have a support network in place that is holding you accountable for achieving your goals? Do you network with like-minded people who want to reach similar goals? Networking and accountability can be important resources for reaching your goals and the stronger your support system the more likely you are to reach your goals.

Accountability Means Someone Else Knows

Usually just the factor that someone else knows what you want to achieve is a powerful motivator in keeping you reaching towards your goals, after all, what happens if you need to tell them you have not reached that goal? You can be accountable in a number of different areas in your life - colleagues or other professionals may hold you accountable for the accomplishment of business goals, family or people with similar hobbies can hold you accountable for reaching personal goals, fellow students and lecturers can hold you accountable for reaching study goals. By telling these people what your goals are you have already made a commitment towards reaching these goals.

Accountability Means People Can Ask You about your Accomplishments

Accountability means that people can ask you about your goals. If people are free to ask you how far you have come with accomplishing your goals then they can help motivate you and encourage you to continue with progress. You should also give these people room to offer constructive criticism if you are not accomplishing your goals the way you should be and not get offended by it. People who are free to ask you questions and offer constructive criticism help keep you focused on your goals and taking steps towards accomplishing them.

Networking with Like-Minded People Fuels Enthusiasm for your Goals

Another way that networking can help you achieve your goals is by fuelling your enthusiasm for reaching your goals. If you network with like-minded people you see how they are reaching their goals in a similar area and this makes you more enthusiastic about reaching your goals.

Networks May Provide Useful Information for Reaching your Goals

Some networking groups also provide useful information for reaching your goals. The group may hold meetings with guest speakers who have expert knowledge in the subject and who can provide you useful guidance in achieving your goals. Other group members may also be able to provide you with useful information for reaching your goals.

An Example of Accountability and Networking in Practice

A number of groups have been established working on these principles. Some of these are the addiction support groups such as Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, etc. These groups are based on the fact that by networking with others who are trying to get over their addictions and by being accountable to the group you are more likely to achieve success in the goal of getting over your addictions. These principles work no matter what your goals may be - if you network with others and are accountable then you will be more likely to achieve your goals.

In conclusion, networking and accountability are powerful resources in helping you achieve your goals. Accountability means that someone else knows what you are aiming for and can question you about it and provide constructive criticism to help you achieve your goals. Networking means meeting with like-minded people who can fuel your enthusiasm for your goals and provide useful information for reaching your goals.
