De-Clutter Your Desk for Optimum Productivity

Web Worker Daily recently published a post on "Declutter your desk to improve your productivity" which I found quite interesting. Since most of us spend a lot of time at our desk each day, it is probably one of the most important elements to have clutter-free for optimum productivity. They suggest a couple of ways that you can de-clutter your desk and what you should keep on it; here we have taken some of their ideas and a few of our own.

Notebook and Pen

Web Worker Daily says that even in a minimalist office, these are the most important tools for any desk and who could really do without these? Although most of your work may be on the computer, there is still often a need to have pen and paper on hand to take quick notes.

Work Out what is Essential

When de-cluttering your desk it is important to work out what is really essential and to keep to these basics. Go through everything you at first consider essential and then see if you can cut this down even more. Go through this a number of times until there really is nothing more you can de-clutter.

Your Inbox

Web Worker Daily recommends that you keep one inbox with everything in it. In addition to this, when de-cluttering it is important to keep on top of your inbox, don't let work pile up but try to make your way through your inbox every day. For those tasks that are more long term, try to keep these items in a folder in your inbox to separate these items from daily tasks.

Keep Your Desk Clear

After de-cluttering it is important to keep your desk clear. Try to just have your computer, notebook, and telephone on your desk and perhaps a small piece of décor such as a family photo or small vase of flowers. Any other necessary supplies should be kept in draws, cupboards, etc.

Since we spend so much of our time at our desks each day, it is important to keep it clutter free if we want to improve our productivity. Try to work out what is really essential and keep to the minimum, work through your inbox daily and keep your desk free of all clutter.
